In an innovative collaboration between Wakamoso and Capital Live Radio, we are launching, on the 10 October 2024, a real-time research and community engagement platform that brings the voices of Mamelodi residents directly to the forefront. This initiative, rooted in Wakamoso’s data-gathering capabilities, seeks to create a space where community insights can not only be heard but also acted upon.
What is the Capital Live Radio & Wakamoso Initiative?
At its core, the partnership between Capital Live Radio and Wakamoso serves as a dynamic platform that enables communities to participate in discussions that matter most to them. Through a combination of digital questionnaires and live radio shows, community members can raise their concerns, highlight local issues, and share opportunities.
Each week, Wakamoso will distribute questionnaires to community members, offering rewards for completed surveys. The collected data will then form the basis of live discussions on Capital Live Radio, where insights are shared with listeners, creating a dialogue between communities, experts, and policymakers.
How Businesses and Policymakers Can Leverage This Platform
For businesses and policymakers, this platform is an invaluable tool to gain deep insights into unevenly developed markets. Wakamoso provides a unique opportunity to tap into previously inaccessible data about marginalised communities, identifying critical areas such as:
- Skills shortages: Businesses can learn where key skills are present and where they need to invest in training programs.
- Economic gaps: Policymakers can use these insights to shape policies that directly address community needs in health, employment, housing, and entrepreneurship.
- Market dynamics: With granular, real-time data, businesses can identify emerging markets and test product viability in communities that have traditionally been underserved.
- Social impact tracking: Policymakers can analyse the social progress of initiatives and measure the effectiveness of interventions across different metrics.
Turning Insights into Action: Developing a White Paper
The radio program will not only serve as a platform for community interaction but will also be the foundation of a comprehensive white paper. Over time, the data gathered from both the questionnaires and the discussions will be analysed and compiled into a report that highlights:
- The dynamics of informal economies in South Africa.
- Community-based solutions and how they can be leveraged by businesses and policymakers.
- Impact assessments of social and economic interventions based on the feedback loops created through the radio program.
This white paper will provide businesses, NGOs, and government agencies with actionable insights, paving the way for more informed decision-making and targeted interventions.
Stay tuned for more updates on how the Wakamoso & Capital Live Radio initiative will bring community voices to the forefront and how we’ll continue to democratise data in South Africa.
